The Frenchie usually holds her own on the neighborhood walks of up to 2 miles so beyond those distances and over more complex terrain, this carrier has been helpful in giving her a lift so she can finish hikes without risking stroke or other negative health issues.
The carrier has 4 reinforced tabs which are adjustable. I got the small-sized carrier since my Frenchie is 11-13lbs and broad chested. The length fits her perfectly for being a small dog and the small-sized carrier I would say is certainly true to size. However I would have purchased a medium for a broad chested dog as she is because the tabs just don't offer more than about 1.5 on each side to widen the opening for her. The carrier comes up to about neck level and the arms extend thru just about 2" or so below the upper opening of the carrier so she is snug and secure. I plan to bring the carrier to my local cobbler who also reattaches nylon harness straps on camping and paddling storage gear, etc. to see if he can make a modification. This is a great value -- I read here that some owners wanted a carrier where their dogs legs could extend out and not be squished and this one offers that. My dog doesn't have a tail so you may want to remember long tailed dogs might have an issue if sitting on their tail in the carrier -- if it's not adjusted to avoid being pinched.
