My 6 lb. puppy loves this as both a cozy hide-away at home and as a safe haven in the car. I leave it open in the house so he can go in and out as he pleases, and he sometimes prefers to sleep in it at night and plays in it during the day. He is also a much calmer and more patient traveler now.
I love all the vents, five in all, for good airflow, all the access options, its sturdiness and quality, and how easy it is to keep clean. There is a back pouch with a snap that I don't use, but the mesh pocket is perfect for our small water bottle. Securing this with a seat belt in the car takes only about two seconds. Because I bought the size large enough for my pet when he is fully grown (estimated about 9 lbs), it doesn't currently work very well as a carrier (he doesn't fill the entire span of the carrier yet, so it rocks off balance when carried by hand, requiring a second hand to hold steady). However I expect this to improve over time as he grows. The price I paid here at Amazon.com was fantastic for such a high quality, versatile product.
This carrier comes with a thinly padded mat; on top of it I inserted a blue 22 x 13-inch "Quiet Time Fashion Pet Bed" aka "Snoozy", which fits perfectly and looks great. I slip a pillow case over this added mat for trips to the park or other ventures that might cause my pet to get dirty, for easy clean-up later.
I do hope this lasts many years because we, my puppy and I, are both so happy with this product.
One thing I should mention: I cut out the interior strap and hook because I was more worried about my puppy either chewing and choking on it or getting tangled in it than having any need to latch onto his harness.
UPDATE MAY 25, 2009: Still loving this carrier, still using in both house and car, and it fits perfectly in shopping carts. My dog still loves it too - he runs inside it and lies down when he sees me getting ready to leave the house. And in spite of all its heavy use, it still looks brand new.
