(More customer reviews)The first carrier I ordered arrived broken. The rod across the length of the top interior was falling down. All one would have to do to dislodge said bar is to push on the top of the carrier - NOT safe for animals at all, as there are sharp bits on the usually hidden part of the rod that is revealed when it's hanging down. I don't know how easy it would be to do this, so it doesn't effect my review, but I felt it was worth mentioning.
The most worrisome aspect of this carrier (and my only true complaint) is that it reeked of chemicals! It off-gasses something horrible - similar to a foam mattress when you first get it. I let it air out for a while, but I can still smell the chemicals a little. As someone who doesn't use chemicals to clean because of the pets, I didn't even feel comfortable letting my cats explore the carriers for a few weeks.
Other than that, this carrier is wonderful! It's made of high quality material and feels very, very solid and secure! I rarely feel completely comfortable carrying my cats in any type of carrier, as I always fear the worst, but I felt like they were safe in these carriers! I'd even allow someone else to carry them. I don't feel like the cat could ever escape or fall out of this carrier if properly fastened. The straps were extremely comfortable when carrying.
The ventilation is iffy. It's great for cats, however, who don't need/like to see all of the chaos outside when being transported. Frightened cats calm down when you cover their heads, and this is the same principle - they can see just enough out of the windows.
The design is lovely! It will please most everyone for whom style is a priority - especially if you like contemporary style. It's unique, stylish, well-made, and similar to luxury luggage. The pictures show the colors true to life.
I found the size to be generous. I have small to medium-sized cats who are around 10 pounds each, and they fit with plenty of room to spare. I could have easily fit two cats in one carrier even though I'd be pushing the weight restrictions on the carrier. I have a mid-size SUV and the carriers fit perfectly across the back seat lengthwise. The cats can stand up without touching the top of the carrier.
It's very comfortable inside. I have Sphynx cats (hairless) and I'm sure they appreciate the felt interior and cushion on the bottom. I would say this carrier is not suited for medium to long-haired dogs/cats in hotter climates because of all the soft/warm interior finishes and the lack of ventilation. I wouldn't leave any animal in it for an unreasonable amount of time.
